About The Position

In accordance with state and federal regulations, the Certified Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and performs other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with company policies and procedures. The role uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. PTCB-certified technicians may assist and coach pharmacy technicians in operating pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating pharmacy cash registers. The technician models and delivers a distinctive, delightful customer experience. The position supports prescription processing, pharmacy workflow, customer service, inventory management, clerical tasks, and the coordination of clinical services. It also requires maintaining pharmacy department standards, following company policies and safety procedures, completing training and continuing education, and maintaining required certification or registration.

Requirements

Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Good computer skills.
Knowledge of store inventory control.
PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

Greet customers and patients, offer assistance with products and services, resolve customer issues, answer questions, and promote a positive customer experience.
Model customer-service best practices, including courteous interpersonal habits and proactively identifying and addressing customer needs.
Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
Assist the pharmacist under supervision and in accordance with state, federal, and company policies; review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
Use pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, verify data entry, retrieve, count, and pour medications, verify prescriptions, and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company error-reporting and Quality Improvement Program policies.
Follow the Walgreen Co. Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
Register related sales, collect and handle cash as required, and help customers locate over-the-counter products.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and efficiently, and perform assigned clerical duties.
Support pharmacy inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; apply asset-protection techniques and file claims for overages, shortages, order errors, and damaged prescription-drug goods.
May assist the pharmacist with clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling blood or urine samples, and help coordinate services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
Help maintain relationships with the local medical community through provider detailing and outreach to healthcare providers and community groups.
Help keep the Pharmacy Department adequately supplied, clean, neat, and orderly.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other assigned tasks.
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or meet state certification or registration requirements; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend requested training, complete PPLs, obtain continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.
