About The Position

MercyOne is hiring a Certified Pharmacy Technician to provide technical support in the delivery of pharmaceutical care to clients of MercyOne Central Iowa Medical Center. Working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the technician prepares and delivers medications and sterile products and helps stock and order drugs and other products. The schedule consists of varied 8-hour shifts. The pharmacy is closed on holidays and Sundays.

Requirements

• National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
• Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at the time of hire.
• Complete Mandatory Reporter training for children and dependent adult abuse within three months of hire.
• High school diploma or GED if nationally certified through NHA; PTCB nationally certified technicians do not require a high school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Prepare medication orders.
• Deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
• Credit patients and restock usable medications and IVs returned to the pharmacy.
• Assist pharmacists with audits and complete assigned unit inspections.
• Restock automated medication dispensing machines.
• Restock tackle boxes and cart inserts, including crash carts, airway carts, and latex carts, and complete the check-in/check-out process.
• Communicate stock utilization and ordering needs.
• Compound and label extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to procedure.
• Prepare IV admixtures, including TPNs, chemotherapy IVs, IV piggybacks, and syringes, following specific policies and procedures.
• Train and mentor new employees and assist in directing workflow as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
