Inpatient Certified Pharmacy Tech FT Evenings
About The Position
MercyOne is hiring a Certified Pharmacy Tech to provide technical support in delivering pharmaceutical care to clients of MercyOne Central Iowa Medical Center. Work includes preparing and delivering medications and sterile products, stocking and ordering drugs and other products, and is performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The role is a full-time evening shift scheduled for 8 hours, from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. The position also provides training and mentoring to new employees and assists with workflow direction as needed. Other duties may be assigned by the manager.
Requirements
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification and registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at the time of hire; proof is required.
- Completion of Mandatory Reporter training for children and dependent adult abuse within three months of hire.
- High school diploma or GED is required when nationally certified through NHA.
- PTCB nationally certified technicians do not require a high school diploma or GED.
Responsibilities
- Prepare medication orders.
- Deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
- Credit patients and restock usable medications and IVs returned to the pharmacy.
- Assist pharmacists with audits and complete assigned unit inspections.
- Restock automated medication dispensing machines.
- Restock tackle boxes and cart inserts, including crash carts, airway carts, and latex carts, and complete the check-in/check-out process.
- Communicate stock utilization and ordering needs.
- Compound and label extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to procedure.
- Prepare IV admixtures, including TPNs, chemotherapy IVs, IV piggybacks, and syringes, following specified policies and procedures.
- Train and mentor new employees and assist in directing workflow as needed.
- Perform other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
