About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist is a trusted member of the operating room team whose priority is maintaining patient safety. The role protects patients by maintaining a sterile environment and preparing and anticipating the instrumentation and equipment needed by the surgeon. The technologist assists the circulating nurse and provides scrub assistance during procedures, applying knowledge of anatomy, asepsis, instruments, supplies, and equipment. This position is for evening shifts at East Jefferson General Hospital, part of LCMC Health.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Certification for Competency Testing (NCCT).
Current BLS certification.

Previous Surgical Tech experience is highly preferred.
Ophthalmology experience.
Neuro/Spine experience.
Robotics experience.

Responsibilities

Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation and preparation of the operative site, care of operative specimens, and room turnover.
Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
Provide scrub assistance during procedures, demonstrating awareness of anatomy, necessary principles and skills, supplies, and an adequate knowledge base.
Apply principles of asepsis and select the proper sterilization method for instruments and equipment before procedures.
Verify that instruments are sterile, take corrective action when unsafe practices, conditions, or breaks in aseptic technique occur, and report information to the circulating nurse.
Prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on the scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card.
Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, setting up the back table, draping, and counting with the circulating nurse.
