About The Position
As a Surgical Technologist, you are a trusted member of the operating room team whose priority is ensuring safe surgery for every patient. You help protect patients by maintaining a sterile environment and preparing and anticipating the instruments and equipment needed by the surgeon. You may pass instruments, position patients, and hold retractors as requested. The role calls for responsibility, focus, attention to detail, and strong organization. At Lakeview Hospital, this position supports surgical care as part of LCMC Health’s community of care. The hospital is the only Level II trauma center in St. Tammany Parish and provides a range of healthcare and wellness services.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
- Current BLS certification.
Nice To Haves
- Surgical Technician certification.
- Previous experience as a surgical technologist.
Responsibilities
- Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation and preparation of the operative site, care of operative specimens, and room turnover.
- Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
- Use proper sterilization methods for instruments before procedures.
- Understand asepsis and the standards and techniques for maintaining it, and take corrective action when unsafe practices, conditions, or breaks occur.
- Prepare the operating room with sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures.
- Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, draping, and counting with the circulating nurse.
- Perform the role of first scrub on basic surgical cases.
- Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and assist with retracting tissue, holding instrumentation, and cutting suture.
