About The Position

Legacy Behavioral Health Services is hiring individuals with a passion for making a difference in their community! We are seeking a Certified Peer Specialist Youth. The Certified Peer Specialist Youth under general supervision provides peer support services focused on the Emerging Adult and Adolescent populations. Candidate is a young adult, with experience living with a mental health or substance use condition or both, who has received behavioral health services as a youth, is willing and able to self-identify as a person living with a behavioral health condition and is prepared to use that experience in helping other youth/young adults living with similar behavioral health conditions. CPS-Y will provide services that consist of rehabilitative skills building, development of environmental supports and resources coordination. Listed services are considered essential to assist a person in improving functioning, gaining access to necessary services by creating environments that promotes recovery and supports the emotional and functional improvement of the individual. The Youth CPS will also participate in the engagement and coordination of care of children, adolescents, and young adults with other systems and internal providers.

Requirements

  • Be 18-26 years of age (valid Georgia ID)
  • Have a mental health (MH) condition, substance use disorder (SUD), or a co-occurring diagnosis
  • Strong desire to identify themselves as a person living with a mental illness or substance use diagnosis
  • Able/willing to actively seek and manage your own appropriate care
  • Able to share their own personal story in a safe and appropriate way
  • Must be well grounded in recovery wellness
  • One year between diagnosis and application to training
  • If the individual has a substance use condition, there must be one year continuous abstinent from substance use
  • High school diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support services focused on the Emerging Adult and Adolescent populations.

  • Assist a person in improving functioning, gaining access to necessary services by creating environments that promotes recovery and supports the emotional and functional improvement of the individual.
