About The Position

Assists healthcare providers in the ambulatory setting. Obtains patient past and present ocular and general medical history. Performs visual acuity and diagnostic testing, including refractometry, visual field testing, axial length, keratometry, corneal topography, pachymetry, intraocular pressure check, retinoscopy, and photography. Assists physicians with minor office surgery and provides other patient services and education as requested. Takes responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment. Uses interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other customers. Provides age-specific care to patients from toddlers through elderly. Performs other duties as assigned, complies with all policies and standards, and abides by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI).

Requirements

  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
  • Recertification of COT through CMEs. (Required)
  • 2+ years prior experience as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in interpersonal relationships. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to work independently in a high stress environment. (Required proficiency)
  • Use of diagnostic and patient care equipment and general office equipment, including telephone, pager, and fax machines. (Required proficiency)
  • Basic computer skills (Required proficiency)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and COT (Required Upon Hire)
