About The Position

Maine Veterans’ Homes is seeking a compassionate and dependable Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our Rehabilitation team. This part-time, 30-hour-per-week position provides an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Veterans by helping residents maintain and improve their independence, function, and quality of life. As a COTA at Maine Veterans’ Homes, you’ll work as part of a collaborative rehabilitation team and provide treatment services under the direction of an Occupational Therapist. You’ll build relationships with residents while helping them work toward their individual goals in a supportive long-term care environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current State of Maine COTA license.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a long-term care, skilled nursing, residential care, or dementia care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy treatment services according to each resident’s individualized plan of care and under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.
  • Follow the resident’s Care Plan and review relevant clinical documentation to ensure appropriate treatment is provided.
  • Complete required documentation, including daily notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in accordance with Maine requirements.
  • Participate in discharge planning and interdisciplinary care.
  • Monitor resident needs and communicate changes or concerns to the appropriate members of the care team.
  • Promote resident safety, dignity, rights, and independence throughout the delivery of care.
  • Work collaboratively with Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Speech Therapists, Rehabilitation Aides, nursing, and other departments.
  • Help maintain therapy equipment so it remains clean, safe, and functional.
  • Participate in staff education and training as assigned.
  • Attend interdisciplinary and Rehabilitation team meetings as needed.
  • Maintain required professional licensure and stay current with occupational therapy practices, resources, and regulations.
  • Provide compassionate and professional care to residents and interact respectfully with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Work occasional weekends and holidays as needed to support therapy coverage.
