About The Position

Unity Psychiatric Care, a division of American Health Partners Inc., operates psychiatric hospitals in Tennessee and Alabama that specialize in treating geriatric patients experiencing mental health crises or behavioral disturbances, including those caused by dementia. The Mental Health Technician provides direct patient care under the supervision of nurses, assists patients with daily living activities, and helps maintain a safe, therapeutic environment while providing crisis intervention.

Requirements

• Certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant is required.
• CPI certification is required, or training must be completed before providing direct patient care; yearly refreshers are required.
• CMS Restraint and Seclusion training is required, or training must be completed before providing direct patient care; yearly refreshers are required.
• Must be willing and able to work flexible hours.
• Position may require unscheduled overtime, after-hours, and weekend work.
• Travel is required.
• Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 pounds is required.

Nice To Haves

• One to two years of experience in a mental health, patient care, or geriatric setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete, file, and retrieve medical records.
• Provide direct patient care, including bathing, dressing, and walking assistance.
• Transport patients and equipment.
• Monitor patients for assessments and report observations to a supervisor.
• Complete admission paperwork and orient patients to the hospital.
• Participate in and assist with recreational activities for patients.
• Participate in and assist with therapeutic activities for patients.
