The Clinical Associate provides clinical and clerical support in delivering quality patient care under the direction of licensed staff, physicians, or mid-level practitioners. The role provides basic clinical services related to patients’ care, cleanliness, safety, and comfort, and may include additional department- or unit-specific tasks. Depending on assignment, the Clinical Associate may function as a nursing assistant, monitor technician, transport technician, or phlebotomist when appropriately trained and authorized. Some tasks, including phlebotomy or removal of femoral arterial sheaths, require the relevant training or certification, department need, and leadership approval. The position supports unit operations through patient-flow coordination, scheduling, reception, registration, record and order review, supply management, and equipment processing. Clinical Associates may collect patient assessment data, assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges, transport patients, and monitor patients during transport or on monitored units. They may observe and document cardiac rhythms, apply monitoring equipment, and report significant changes to the RN. Phlebotomy duties, when authorized, include collecting and processing specimens. The Clinical Associate is expected to provide respectful, empathetic service to patients, families, visitors, and colleagues, and to comply with company policies, ethical standards, and the code of conduct. The role may also support staff scheduling, safety and environmental rounds, regulatory compliance, and the orientation and career development of others.
