About The Position

We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to support patient care on our medical-surgical/telemetry unit. The CNA will assist nursing staff in providing quality, patient-centered care by performing essential clinical and supportive tasks. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment. Position Overview: The Certified Nursing Assistant provides direct patient care under the supervision of Registered Nurses in a medical-surgical/telemetry unit. The CNA assists with daily living activities, monitors patient conditions, supports patient safety, and ensures a clean and comfortable environment. This role is vital to enhancing patient experience and supporting the nursing team in delivering high-quality care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have successfully completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program or a Patient Care Technician certificate.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
  • Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
  • Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
  • Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
  • Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
  • Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
  • Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Recognizes, obtains and reports appropriate data to the staff.
  • Provides patient care services to include basic hygiene, bathing and feeding functions.
  • Obtains vital signs Appropriately documents findings and information.
  • Communicates appropriate information to the staff as required.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.
  • Has access to minimal risk medications contained in kits, trays or packs associated with certain procedures, as well as IV fluids stored in patient care areas and automated dispensing units.
  • Follows the MUSC Standards of Behaviors.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
