The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Advanced role requires meeting unit competency and orientation requirements, with additional demonstrated competency in overseeing the new CNA and pool CNA team. This role serves as a mentor to new hires and a resource to all CNA staff. The CNA Advanced observes and monitors CNA patient assignments, providing input to the Charge Nurse. They also oversee CNA orientation under the direction of the department educator, completing orientation and competency checks on new hire CNAs. This position educates newly hired CNA staff on departmental procedures, safety, and health issues, coaching for improvement and educating staff for results. The CNA Advanced ensures the quality of services provided by CNAs to patients and families, collaborating with support services to ensure unit quality. They bring concerns and new ideas to the unit manager to improve care and report staff behavioral concerns to management immediately. This role provides constructive feedback and input to CNA staff during their 90-day and annual evaluations. Responsibilities include completing documentation for care provided, identifying and following through with patients who have special needs or requests, and attending meetings for patient satisfaction. The CNA Advanced serves as a liaison to nursing management and new CNA partners, assists leadership in identifying process improvement opportunities, processes patient charges, and orders supplies. They answer telephones and call lights appropriately, participate in department performance improvement activities, serve as a role model in Critical Moments of Service standards, complete occurrence reports, and maintain current bulletin boards. The CNA Advanced also works as a CNA as staffing requires and completes special projects as assigned.
