The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) will assist the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients. This includes tasks such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, assisting with activity orders and ambulation, and proper patient positioning and transferring. The CNA will also be responsible for measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and daily weights. Accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is essential. The role involves performing purposeful rounding, communicating patient needs to the RN, and participating in the admission, transfer, and discharge process under RN supervision. The CNA ensures patient call lights are accessible and answered promptly, collects specimens, and performs point-of-care testing. They will also maintain nursing area stock, clean equipment, and perform patient positioning and transporting duties. Tasks related to nutritional needs, skin integrity, and ensuring special patient supplies are provided are also part of the role. Depending on unit requirements, the CNA may assist with IV removal, post-mortem care, and bladder scans. Practicing infection prevention through hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile procedures is crucial. The role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles.
