About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), also known as a State Registered Nurse Assistant (SRNA), provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or other licensed care team member. The CNA delivers excellent patient care while respecting human dignity and the uniqueness of everyone. Empathy, compassion, communication, and teamwork are essential in the PCT-nurse-patient relationship. This role involves caring for patients on telemetry units specializing in general medical-surgical and telemetry patients, including those with conditions like pneumonia, ESRD, Stroke, CHF, and chest pain. The position also involves caring for post-operative patients from various surgical specialties. The patient population often has multiple co-morbidities and complex care needs, with patients admitted or transferred from ICU, ED, and PACU.

Requirements

  • Current Kentucky Nurse Aide Certification required or successful completion of the first year of a Nursing program and validation of a clinical rotation consistent with the level of education.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (must be obtained within 30 days of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct patient care and related tasks as outlined by scope of practice.
  • Assists patients in personal hygiene activities such as bathing, dental and oral care, hair, and nail care.
  • Assists patients with bowel and bladder functions while maintaining dignity.
  • Records patient intake and output (I & O).
  • Collects, labels, and transports specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Changes and transports soiled and contaminated linens according to procedure.
  • Maintains a clean and tidy patient room/environment.
  • Assists patients with activity, turning, and repositioning as indicated by provider order and in collaboration with the nurse.
  • Communicates pertinent patient information/findings to the patient’s nurse.
  • Sets priorities for the care of multiple patients.
