The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 20-bed unit capable of monitoring patients via central telemetry 24 hours a day. The PCU serves as a place for the monitoring and care of patients age 16 to geriatric with moderate or potentially severe physiologic instability, requiring technical support but not necessarily artificial life support. This role performs care that requires substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills based upon the principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences in the application of the nursing process. The Certified Nursing Assistant utilizes high-level assessment skills to design and ensure multidisciplinary patient care to meet holistic needs, incorporating established practice guidelines and regulatory standards.
