The certified nursing assistant works as part of a team to assist with care for a group of patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse. The role is based in the Pediatric Unit at Hospital for Special Care and is scheduled for 32 hours per week on the third shift. Employees may be required to float to other patient care units or departments when operational or patient-care needs require it, provided they have the competencies and qualifications for the assignment. The position involves providing patient care in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and protocols; communicating patient information to the care team; documenting care; and supporting unit operations. Work is primarily indoors and involves continuous interaction with others, occasional unpredictable schedule fluctuations, and potential exposure to bloodborne or airborne pathogens, body fluids, infections, latex, and hazardous drugs. The role may also require responding to medical or behavioral emergencies. The work has substantial physical demands, including prolonged standing and walking, patient transfers and mobility assistance, lifting and carrying, and pushing or pulling. Cognitive and communication demands include applying prior knowledge, organizing and prioritizing tasks, adapting to new situations, following multistep directions, communicating with diverse populations, and performing basic arithmetic and measurements.
