About The Position

Charleston Birth Place, the only CABC-accredited CNM freestanding birth center in South Carolina, is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife. Located near historic Charleston and its beaches, the center serves a diverse population, including military families and the uninsured. Established in 2008, the practice has assisted over 3,500 families seeking low-intervention out-of-hospital births. They attend births at their 9,000 sq. ft birth center and the Pearl Tourville Women's Pavilion at MUSC. Maternity services include extended prenatal care, labor support, water birth, and postpartum follow-up. Their Nest program offers in-house chiropractic care, pelvic floor PT, mental health counseling, IBCLC consulting, and various classes/support groups. Wellness services include annual exams, contraception, IUD placement, gynecological visits, and preconception planning. The practice values midwife autonomy, shared decision-making, and physiologic birth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1-year experience, preferably in a freestanding birth center or alongside midwifery unit.
  • Active or temporary SC APRN license.
  • Current DEA.
  • BLS certification.
  • NRP certification.
  • Ultrasound training, or be registered to complete the training upon hire.

  • New grad with strong labor and delivery experience would be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Attend births at the birth center and the Medical University of South Carolina's Pearl Tourville Women's Pavilion.
  • Provide extended prenatal care appointments.
  • Offer labor support and water birth services.
  • Conduct frequent postpartum follow-up.
  • Provide wellness services including annual exams, contraception, IUD placement, gynecological problem visits, and preconception planning.
  • Collaborate with services offered through the Nest program (chiropractic care, pelvic floor PT, mental health counseling, IBCLC consulting).
