Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Midwifery Program
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-scope midwifery practice
  • Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) – American Midwifery Certification Board
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) – Louisiana State Board of Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations and medical histories
  • Develop and manage individualized plans of care
  • Provide prenatal, labor and delivery, postpartum, gynecologic, and well-woman care
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing
  • Perform procedures within scope of practice and demonstrated competency
  • Manage the care of newborns and women throughout the lifespan
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality patient care
  • Consult appropriately when patient needs exceed scope or require additional expertise
  • Serve as a key resource and liaison for patients, families, and clinical staff
  • Counsel patients and families regarding healthcare needs, treatment plans, and wellness strategies
  • Promote health maintenance, disease prevention, and informed decision-making
  • Ensure continuity of care across all stages of treatment
  • Maintain complete, timely, and accurate medical records
  • Adhere to organizational, regulatory, and professional practice standards
