The Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM), APRN provides antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum and women’s health patient care services. The CNM will be expected to provide women’s health, prenatal and postpartum care to women in selected clinic settings, triage women who present to Labor and Delivery, and to manage the care of essentially healthy women admitted in labor, delivery and postpartum. CNMs provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, prescribe medical treatments and manage health issues for patients independently or in collaboration with the designated physicians. The CNM will work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patients' health care problems, and will serve as a health care resource interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. The CNM coordinates the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate. The CNM teaches aspects of midwifery and obstetric care and services to medical, nursing and midwifery students and participates in research initiatives led by the Women and Infants Service Line.
