About The Position

The Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM), APRN provides antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum and women’s health patient care services. The CNM will be expected to provide women’s health, prenatal and postpartum care to women in selected clinic settings, triage women who present to Labor and Delivery, and to manage the care of essentially healthy women admitted in labor, delivery and postpartum. CNMs provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, prescribe medical treatments and manage health issues for patients independently or in collaboration with the designated physicians. The CNM will work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patients' health care problems, and will serve as a health care resource interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. The CNM coordinates the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate. The CNM teaches aspects of midwifery and obstetric care and services to medical, nursing and midwifery students and participates in research initiatives led by the Women and Infants Service Line.

Requirements

  • Valid License as an APRN by the State of Arkansas Required
  • National Board Certification for Nurse-Midwifery
  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license is required but may be obtained after hire.
  • Will consider a new CNM graduate.
  • The in-person response time requirement is 2 hours.
  • Demonstrated communication (written and oral) problem-solving, leadership and collaborative skills, strong patient advocacy and patient education skills.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment criminal background and registry check and drug screen.
  • Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and women’s health care services.
  • Performs comprehensive health assessments and establishing diagnoses.
  • Develops and implementing treatment and care plans.
  • Prescribes medications, therapies, and diagnostic tests within APRN scope.
  • Triages patients presenting to Labor & Delivery.
  • Manages laboring patients independently or collaboratively with OB/GYN physicians.
  • Monitors fetal and maternal well-being during pregnancy and birth.
  • Provides newborn care during the first 28 days of life.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, and specialists
  • Supports evidence-based, low-intervention, patient-centered maternity care.
  • Consults or referring to physicians when complications arise.
  • Documents patient care and maintaining compliance with APRN and hospital standards.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
