About The Position

VCU Health Orthopedics at River's Bend is a specialized medical practice located in Chester, Virginia, providing comprehensive orthopedic consultations and treatments. Providers treat an estimated 50 patients daily. The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician. The position will start at the Chester/Colonial Heights location and then transition to Chesterfield Pavilion once open in Spring 2027.

Requirements

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program
  • No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Lifting 20-50 lbs.
  • Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking
  • Able to handle multiple priorities
  • Able to adapt to frequent, change

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
  • Previous experience in an academic health care environment
  • Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
  • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
  • Handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.

Benefits

  • Compensation Range: $19.00 - $28.51 Actual salary offers will be based on several key factors to include relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
