About The Position

VCU Health Orthopedics at River's Bend is a specialized medical practice located in Chester, Virginia, providing comprehensive orthopedic consultations and treatments. Providers treat an estimated 50 patients daily. The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician. Team members are required to float to South Park and Jennick Drive locations if needed. The position will start at the Chester/Colonial Heights location then will transition to Chesterfield Pavilion once open Spring 2027.

Requirements

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program
  • No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
  • Previous experience in an academic health care environment
  • Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
  • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
  • Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.

  • Compensation Range: $19.00 - $28.51
