The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician. This role involves functioning under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem-solving, all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure. Independent action is required in patient care, while prior approval or guidance from a supervisor is needed for time/schedule changes, legal issues, directed care deviating from standard, and identifying educational resources. Job duties may include handling, transportation, access to, and/or contact with medications and related supplies. Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays, with individual shift rotations and schedules established by the Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including shift rotations and hours of work, may be adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements.
