About The Position

The MU Health Care Career Institute is offering an exciting opportunity for current employees to advance their careers by providing free training to become certified medical assistants. Ten individuals will receive fully paid education and support throughout this career advancement program. This program is designed to create progressive career pathways for current employees. The education and training will be provided online by Ready to Hire - Power by Cengage Group. Upon successful completion, participants will gain new skills, certification, and a new career. Selected candidates will be placed into a Medical Assistant role in an outpatient area based on the needs of the organization. Medical Assistants perform and assist with clinical procedures, maintain equipment, perform laboratory procedures, and provide direct patient care in outpatient clinic settings.

Requirements

  • Current MU Health Care or University of Missouri employees that have successfully completed 1 year of employment.
  • No prior healthcare experience is needed.
  • Currently "ON TRACK"
  • 2 letters of recommendation required: ONE letter must come from a current manager or supervisor.
  • Unofficial high school transcript required.
  • Unofficial college transcript if applicable.
  • Commit to working for MU Health Care full time for two years as a Medical Assistant upon program completion (two year commitment = May 2027 – May 2029).

Nice To Haves

  • High school transcripts required for those graduating high school in the last 5 years or TEAS testing (no cost) will be required for those who graduated high school more than 5 years ago - study materials will also be provided at no cost.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and assist with clinical procedures
  • Maintain equipment
  • Perform laboratory procedures
  • Provide direct patient care in outpatient clinic settings
  • Complete ONLINE courses and in-person hands-on training
  • Job-share hours with an outpatient, clinical department [outside of their home department] to receive approximately 24 hours/week of paid, hands on training during the latter part of the program.
