About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with a primary care physician to deliver patient care within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. The role includes reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, preparing treatment rooms for examinations, and providing respectful customer service to patients and the community. The position also performs related clerical duties and helps keep patient records and office supplies current.

Requirements

• High school degree or GED.
• Active Medical Assisting certification from an accepted certifying organization is required. Accepted credentials include CMA, RMA, CCMA, NRCMA, and NCMA.
• If unable to obtain Medical Assistant certification, Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable, except in South Carolina.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; it is preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH.
• Problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage professionally with staff and patients.

Nice To Haves

• One year of medical assistant healthcare experience.
• Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and community members respectfully and provide excellent customer service.
• Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
• Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Perform departmental clerical duties, including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
