About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant supports physicians and other professional healthcare providers in an ambulatory care setting with patient care and examinations, including exam preparation and laboratory work. The role performs basic medical assisting procedures to support patients’ care, comfort, and safety.

The position is based at Holy Cross Health Center in Rockville, Maryland, and is scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, on the day shift. It also supports front-office operations as needed, including reception, medical records, scheduling, and billing.

Requirements

• Medical Assistant certification from AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA, NHA, NAHP, or NPCE.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

• At least 1 year of previous Medical Assistant experience in a physician’s office.

Responsibilities

• Show patients to exam rooms, interview them, measure vital signs, and document findings in the Electronic Health Record.
• Assess patient symptoms, reactions, and physical condition, and record the data in the medical record.
• Collect laboratory samples, prepare them for pickup, document them in the patient Electronic Health Record, and communicate with appropriate departments about laboratory protocols and procedure requirements.
• Set up examination rooms and prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
• Assist with examinations and procedures according to physician or healthcare provider preference, including gynecological exams, minor surgeries, electrocautery, biopsies, sigmoidoscopies, casting, sterile-technique procedures, and specimen preparation.
• Maintain knowledge and skills related to front-office operations.
• Assist as needed with reception, medical records, scheduling, and billing functions.
