About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant will be the first person the patients/clients will interact with upon arrival at the Douglas County Health Department. It is vital that the CMA be a welcoming and helpful face as the patients/clients arrive. This position is full-time, 35 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients by greeting them in person or on the telephone; answering or referring to inquiries.
  • Prepares patients for health care visits by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patients; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Support patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; administering medication on the premises; drawing blood; removing sutures; changing dressings.
  • Educate patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions, answering questions in person or via phone.
  • Complete records by recording patient examinations, treatment, and test results.
  • Contribute to revenue generation by accurately recording patient billing information and insurance information and ensuring completion of all necessary insurance and consent documentation.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
  • Initiate and completes prior authorizations within 48 hours on notification.
  • Send refills as guided by medication protocol within 48 hours of request.
  • Reviews portal message inboxes from patients daily. Respond to patient, or forward to provider for review within 72 hours of receipt of message.
  • Assist provider with completing FMLA forms and writing letters requested by patient for provider to review and sign.
  • Other duties as assigned by Provider or Administrator.
