About The Position

Performs basic nursing skills and/or serves under the direction and supervision of the practice physician, advanced practice professional, and/or registered nursing staff. The role supports patient visits by gathering initial information and vital signs, preparing exam rooms, assisting with examinations and procedures, coordinating appointments and referrals, and providing follow-up education. The position is based at BMC University Internal Medicine in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and is scheduled for 40 hours per week.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant.
• Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patients.
• Ability to adapt to changing environments.
• Ability to use and learn software applications.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, rotate normally, and stand and walk during an 8–12-hour shift.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• One year of healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

• Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms; prepares for provider visits by obtaining initial information and vital signs.
• Prepares exam rooms for patients, ensuring cleanliness and the availability of supplies.
• Assists with and/or performs exams, tests, and procedures.
• Schedules appointments and sets up referral contacts as needed.
• Assists providers during patient examinations and procedures.
• Educates patients on follow-up expectations.
• Maintains quality control testing logs as required.
• Ensures medical equipment is in proper working condition.
• Assists patients with completing medical documentation.
