About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the CMA performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. The CMA assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. This role involves interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and recording or inputting this information into the patient's medical record. The CMA is also responsible for preparing treatment rooms for patient examinations. The position is with the Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) and is an employee, regular cost center CC000443 CHS - Family Medicine James Island (Offsite). The pay rate is hourly/salary with a pay grade of Health-22, for a scheduled 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred (for CMA).
  • Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program (for LPN I).
  • Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state (for LPN I).
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors (Continuous).
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception (Continuous).
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities (Continuous).
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (Continuous).
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations (Continuous).
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment (Continuous).
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (Continuous).
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required (Selected Positions).
