About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the CMA performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical record. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) I role also involves patient care within the scope of their license.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred (for CMA).
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification OR American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification OR National Health career Association (NHA) MedCA as a Certified Clinical & Administrative Medical Assistant (MA1) certification OR National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) certification OR National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification (for CMA).
  • Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program (for LPN).
  • Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state (for LPN).
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of patient care experience preferred (for CMA).
