About The Position

This position is vital in the health care delivery system. This is traditionally the patient’s first clinical point of contact so patient relationship, management of patient care, management of patient information, team communication, and demonstration of conduct and activities using patient centered medical home principles, policies and procedures is critical. Always supports the vision and the mission of the Clinic. The CMA will conduct pre-planning and prepping patient charts (entering orders needed), record patient data (ex, vitals, screenings), perform medication reconciliation, administer medication as directed by provider (oral, subcutaneously, or intramuscular), administer vaccinations, preform procedures (EKGs, breathing treatments, ear lavages, etc.), and educating patients. The CMA may have to float to a different department if needed. Laboratory Support-Performs patient testing and reporting as assigned and preforms laboratory tests as described in the lab manual. Performs routine waive tests with accuracy and precision under minimal to no supervision. Maintains adequate stock levels. Runs controls, monitors QC Data, and preforms, documents, and assures proficiency tests are submitted. Keeps all lab records on file and assists in laboratory inspection preparedness. Maintains instruments following manufactures recommendation. Documents accurately maintenance on action logs.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Minimum of 1 year medical assistant work experience in a hospital or medical clinic setting preferred.
Current certification as a registered or certified medical assistant required.
Must be computer literate.
Must be current with BLS/CPR.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
This position requires an initial N95 mask fit testing and annual test fitting thereafter unless there is a significant change during the year that requires retesting prior to the annual fit testing.
Knowledge of practice level procedures, techniques, and practice of patient care.
Knowledge and skilled in use of computer and computer software (EMR, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) programs as necessary and telephone system.
Knowledge of community resources
Knowledge of SC policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the Chronic Care Model and Patient-Centered Medical Home Model (PCMH).
Skilled in excellent customer service
Ability to complete basic/intermediate math computations and medical math conversions.
Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.
Ability to maintain an effective and professional working relationship with the public and co-workers.
Ability to maintain client, office confidentiality and abides by confidentiality expectations and HIPAA guidelines.
Ability to prepare records in accordance to detailed instructions.

Ability to work with medical equipment to include but not limited to: electronic and manual vital signs measurement, auditory and visual examinations, oxygen and suction apparatus, peak flowmeter.
Able to bend, stretch, stoop, stand, sit, and lift 20 lbs.
Able to show excellent interpersonal skills reflecting clarity, diplomacy and communicates accurately and effectively with all levels of staff and management.
Ability to communicate concerns to appropriate personnel using tact and diplomacy.
Ability to interpret and translate for the provider when necessary.
Ability fully comply with the enhanced infection control requirements of the clinic.

Responsibilities

Prepares patients for examination and treatment.
Takes patient’s history and vital signs.
Prepares examination and treatment rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
Gives injections that are in their scope of practice.
Assists with refills, reviews all patient medications as per protocols.
Initiates notes for the nurse on call or others to alert information regarding a patient.
Assists the providers as requested.
May collect and process biological specimens for analysis and other lab tests.
Assists with scheduling tests or treatments as requested.
Will maintain accurate laboratory records for inspections by lab director, lab consultant, and CLIA inspectors.
Performs pre-visit chart reviews for required health indicators, vaccines, labs, etc.
Reviews chart under the direction of provider and obtains and places report results in charts.
Makes list of anticipated needs for patients (vaccines, labs orders,etc.)
Assures the patient information and records is completed timely and is current.
Keeps all laboratory records on file and assist in lab inspection preparedness.
Adheres to all HIPAA regulations in and outside of the Clinic.
Communicates patient information as requested to enhance patient services.
Actively participates in team huddles to assure maximum appointments, gaps in the day, and works on same day access.
Meets with the team to ensure that the provider’s productivity and schedule is reviewed and populated throughout the day.
Helps in the orientation of new employees or students.
Works with unit team members as well as other clinic personnel to ensure a smooth patient flow.
Communicates specific patient needs and/or population management information.
Maintains a friendly and safe environment for self and others.
Keeps work area clean and disinfected daily.
Record temperature reading daily for control devices.
Response to emergency situations as per training.
Refrains from texting and speaking on the cell phone while on duty.
Refrains from informal communication with patients and others.
Fully participates in the performance improvement and follows all the Clinic policies and procedures.
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with Clinic leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Submits required documentation in a timely manner (credentialing requirements, license renewals, certifications, CNE attendance, etc.).
Must always adhere to a professional appearance in dress and behavior/conduct.
