About The Position

Iowa Digestive Disease Center and Iowa Endoscopy Center are proud to serve the community and surrounding area with regard to digestive health needs. Our endoscopy center is one of only three centers in Iowa recognized by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy is known as the leader in setting standards for excellence in gastrointestinal endoscopy and has designed the only national program recognizing quality and safety in the practice of gastrointestinal endoscopy. Our center has also been accredited by the AAAHC, having met their rigorous quality and safety standards. AAAHC accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. Our board-certified physicians specialize in: Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Diagnostic Endoscopy, Therapeutic Endoscopy, Infusion, and Advanced Therapeutics. We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our Endoscopy team. The CMA is an integral part of the health care team and plays a vital role in supporting gastrointestinal procedures by assisting with patient assessments, education, care coordination, and endoscopic procedures. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates excellent communication skills, and is passionate about ensuring patient comfort, safety, and education throughout the endoscopy experience, while maintaining strict adherence to infection control and quality care standards.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills – clear, effective, tactful, calm, and compassionate with patients and team members
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities – especially in fast-paced or emergent situations
  • Attention to detail – especially for monitoring patients and documenting procedures accurately
  • Organizational skills – for managing equipment prep, room turnover, and patient flow
  • Able to explain complex procedures and post-care instructions in patient-friendly terms
  • Prioritizes tasks to meet departmental flow and safety standards
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality where required

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) year minimum experience within a clinical setting and/or gastroenterology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Correctly identify patients
  • Admit patient to the procedure area
  • Assist RN in preparing patient for their procedure and/or caring for the patient post-procedure under direct supervision of RN
  • May collect and/or document vital signs and clinical information under supervision of RN
  • Provide pre- and post-procedure education, prep instructions, and post-procedure expectations
  • Prepare patient care areas each morning by setting up rooms, equipment, and supplies for procedures
  • Advise and report problems/abnormalities
  • Transport/escort patient
  • Follow infection control and safety protocols
  • Assist with appointment scheduling and procedure follow up test scheduling when requested
  • Obtain testing ore-authorizations when indicated
  • Other duties as assigned
