About The Position

The Endoscopy unit provides comprehensive care to more than 7,000 patients annually. Its mission is to deliver high-quality, compassionate inpatient and outpatient endoscopic care, develop and evaluate new endoscopic technologies and procedures, and serve as a primary training site for gastroenterology fellows and surgical residents. The facility performs a full range of routine and advanced GI services. Although the CMA position with our Endoscopy team is primarily administrative in nature, candidates must have prior clinical CMA experience to effectively support patients and providers. Our CMAs must be fluent with medical terminology as they perform the pre-calls for procedures and patient education. They must also be comfortable with a high call volume and transporting patients within the hospital. Scheduling requirements: Full time CMAs are required to work five 8 hour shifts per week. The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.

Requirements

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program
  • No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
  • Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
  • Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
  • Previous experience in an academic health care environment
  • Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
