About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program is the only Immune Effector Cellular Therapy FACT (Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy) accredited program, and the only combined adult and pediatric FACT accredited program in that state of South Carolina. In 2023, our program infused approximately 200 allogeneic, autologous, and cellular therapy products to blood cancer patients across the state of South Carolina. This position will move from Hollings Cancer Center to a dedicated BMTCT outpatient infusion and clinic that is currently under construction. The projected opening of the new BMTCT space will be in Summer 2024 and is located in the Ashley River Tower, 1st Floor. This new outpatient area will provide the BMTCT Infusion RN II the ability to cross-train to BMTCT Clinic.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Annual competencies are required to be maintained.
  • Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients.
  • Failure to abide by MUHA policies are subject to disciplinary action, including termination.
  • Employee must possess considerable knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy; ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of complex therapeutic procedures; and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients.
  • Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or National Health career Association (NHA) or MedCA as a Certified Clinical & Administrative Medical Assistant (MA1), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.
