About The Position

Iberia Comprehensive Community Health Center (ICCHC) and its satellite health centers are the leading providers of primary health care services in the communities we serve, including individuals who are both insured and uninsured. ICCHC provides multi-disciplinary, comprehensive health care services, including medical care. Our medical department provides a full array of medical care including, but not limited to women’s health exams, men’s health exams, diabetes care, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma, chronic conditions, laboratory services, physical examinations, and referrals for specialty care. ICCHC is currently seeking a full time Certified Medical Assistant for its Leesville, LA location. This position will handle critical administrative tasks, including prior authorizations, referrals, reviewing patient messages, prescription refills, and more. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate.
  • Graduate of state approved Medical Assistant school.
  • Current license as a Medical Assistant in the State of Louisiana.
  • Six months previous medical office experience required.
  • Basic knowledge of nursing processes and principles, biology and chemistry and basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical procedures and pharmacology drugs.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Renders safe nursing care to patients under the general supervision of the Nursing Supervisor and Medical Director.
  • Performs venipunctures, urinalysis, CBG’s and assist in the lab as needed in addition to standard Medical Assistant duties.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, education, safety and related criteria for the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric population.
  • Takes vital signs, administers oral, IM, SC Meds per MD orders, shares responsibilities for referrals, and call-backs when appropriate.
  • Supports timely and accurate assembly and analysis of Medical Records.
  • Responds to requests from attorneys, physicians, insurance companies for copies of the medical record.
  • Responds to Community Care referrals, requests from emergency room and other physicians.
