This role is responsible for performing a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and any other discipline as introduced into the laboratory. The individual must adhere to the laboratory's procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results, and follow established quality control policies. They must be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct them or notify their supervisor. Responsibilities also include performing and documenting instrument maintenance, reviewing the accuracy of patient results, recognizing age-specific differences in expected results, and ensuring proficiency testing samples are handled correctly. The role may involve performing venipuncture or capillary puncture, assisting in policy development, adhering to safety and infection control policies, and potentially acting as a Lead Tech in the absence of a supervisor. Additional responsibilities may include tasks related to LIS and/or POC, and other duties assigned by management.
