About The Position

Under the direction of the Department Leadership and supervision of the Acute Hemodialysis RN, the Acute Certified Hemodialysis Technician delivers safe and therapeutic Dialysis treatment to the chronically or acutely ill patient. Is responsible for the Dialysis patient assessment, treatment and care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker, you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act. (Gov’t. Code §§ 3100, 3102) Needs to recognize that they have an affirmative duty and responsibility for reporting perceived misconduct, including actual or potential violations of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, or this organization’s standards/code of conduct. The employee shall work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines; and the incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting various documents, including safety guidelines, operational procedures, maintenance instructions, and manuals.
  • Capable of preparing routine reports and correspondence as needed.
  • Ability to speak and write in English, with the ability to write clearly, comprehend verbal and written instructions, and follow directions accurately.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Current California Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) certification issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) required.
  • Requires current American Heart Association BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hand-on patient care.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) certification through the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC), or other nationally recognized certification accepted by CDPH/CMS, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer patient care for those with chronic renal failure.
  • Assist the staff in the set-up and Dialysis of acute care patients.
  • Monitor patients, equipment, vascular access and maintenance of blood flow throughout the Dialysis treatment.
  • Recognize emergency, physical and psychological conditions and institution of long-term dialysis.
  • Assist and support the Acute Hemodialysis RN in patient instruction in the area of Dialysis training with family participation when applicable.
