About The Position

Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center is seeking a dedicated Certified Counselor to join our Enhanced Services outpatient team. This position supports two of Anuvia's most intensive outpatient programs — the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment (SACOT) — where clients receive structured, high-level care on their road to recovery. The Certified Counselor in this role will carry a Person-Centered Plan (PCP) caseload, provide active case management, and step in to co-facilitate or lead groups as needed across both programs. This is a dynamic, client-facing position that requires someone who is organized, flexible, and passionate about meeting people where they are.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered
  • CADC, CADC-I, or CADC-R required — active certification with the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board (NCASPPB) must be maintained
  • Valid NC or SC Driver's License required
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in substance use treatment, behavioral health, or a related field preferred
  • Direct experience with IOP, SACOT, or other intensive outpatient behavioral health programs strongly preferred
  • Experience with Person-Centered Planning (PCP) and case management preferred
  • Group facilitation experience in a clinical or behavioral health setting preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document clearly and concisely in an EHR system
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and clinical documentation platforms
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent organizational skills; able to prioritize competing demands and meet documentation deadlines
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Comfortable with flexible scheduling to meet program and staffing ratio needs
  • Knowledge of community resources, referral processes, and care coordination best practices

  • Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) credential a plus

Responsibilities

  • Carry an active PCP caseload, developing individualized person-centered plans in collaboration with clients and the interdisciplinary team
  • Conduct and document comprehensive case management services including needs assessments, goal-setting, and service coordination throughout the client's treatment episode
  • Advocate for clients by supporting informed decision-making regarding treatment options, benefits, and available community resources
  • Facilitate coordination of care and information sharing both within Anuvia and with external community partners
  • Monitor client progress and collaborate with clinical staff to adjust PCPs and treatment plans as clinically indicated
  • Facilitate discharge planning meetings; ensure clients understand follow-up appointments, medications, and ongoing support services
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with referral sources, families, guardians, and community agencies
  • Step in to co-facilitate or lead scheduled IOP and SACOT groups as needed, ensuring continuity of programming
  • Facilitate groups focused on independent living skills, recovery education, relapse prevention, and community reintegration
  • Contribute to program curriculum and workshop development in collaboration with the clinical team
  • Facilitate family involvement in clients' treatment and recovery as appropriate and with client consent
  • Create a positive, welcoming admission experience with clear communication about program structure, expectations, and available supports
  • For residential admissions: conduct initial assessments including vitals, UDS results, preliminary diagnosis, and ASAM criteria in compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Connect newly admitted clients with needed services and orient them to program resources
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the EHR including NC TOPPS, GPRA, and incident reports per state and agency requirements
  • Participate in staff meetings, treatment team meetings, quality assurance, and quality improvement activities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with organizational policies, ethical standards, and applicable governing board regulations
  • Consult and collaborate with nursing staff, clinical providers, and interdisciplinary teams to support informed clinical decision-making
  • Promote a positive team culture by modeling professionalism, effective communication, and supportive behavior
  • If credentialed as a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS), provide peer support services that promote recovery, self-advocacy, wellness, and community living skills
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
