About The Position

The primary purpose of this job position is to provide assigned residents with assistance in meeting scheduled needs as outlined in the care plan/service plan and in assisting with unscheduled needs when required, according to established facility policies and procedures and as may be directed by your supervisor. A Certified Medication Aide (CMA) requires knowledge in medication administration. Performance is evaluated based on job knowledge, performance, coordination of duties, equipment and supply use, and safety and sanitation practices. Additional observations include appearance, attendance, education/in-service, initiative, judgment, and teamwork. Ratings are based on a scale of 1-5, where 1 does not meet the standard and 5 exceeds the standard.

Requirements

Must possess, as a minimum, an 8th grade education.
Must be willing to become a Certified Medication Aide in accordance with the laws of this state.
Must be certified as a Nurse Assistant or become a UAP on the NDBON registry.
Must be a minimum of sixteen (16) years of age.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language and follow oral and written instructions.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as willingness to handle difficult residents.
Must be able to accurately report information concerning a resident’s condition.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people in the community.
Must be able to stoop, turn, bend, stretch, crawl, kneel, reach overhead, horizontally and down, and lift, push, pull and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
Requires frequent standing, walking and occasional sitting.
Requires ability to smell, discriminate speech, speak clearly, discriminate color, and possess intact peripheral vision.
Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
Requires occasional work with toxic chemicals, sprays, mists, etc.
Requires frequent use of the hands, arms, legs and feet.
Requires frequent use of gloves.
Requires balancing and rapid mental-muscular coordination.
Requires occasional use of a face shield or facial protection.

Responsibilities

Consistently records entries on all forms, including ADL forms, MAR, and 24-hour report sheets, ensuring accuracy and reflection of resident's current condition.
Greets residents in a friendly and welcoming manner, introduces them to staff, and orients residents and families to community routines such as fire evacuation procedures and meal times.
Obtains admit height, weight, and vital signs, and assists residents with unpacking/packing belongings.
Obtains medication certification and follows all applicable state rules and laws for medication assistance.
Assists residents with medication administration according to facility policies and procedures and established standards of practice.
Assists residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, mouth care, and toileting as outlined in the service/care plan.
Performs nursing care as delegated by the licensed nurse, including taking and recording blood pressure, pulse, respirations, height, and weight.
Reports any changes in resident’s condition, including skin breakdown and behaviors.
Assists residents in meal preparation, housekeeping, cleaning of residence, and laundry.
Assists residents with telephone use and other communication needs.
Becomes certified and maintains certification in Montessori Programming.
Implements concepts of Montessori programming in activities and individualized service/care plans for each resident.
Performs Montessori Based Dementia Programming with residents in all service programs.
Assists in developing and implementing Montessori Based activity programs and activities.
Assists residents with social and Montessori Based Programming and activities, such as baking and crafts.
Leads resident activity groups, such as exercise and manicures.
Wears appropriate clothing as described in the Dress Code policy and maintains clean clothing/uniform and shoes.
Wears name tag while on duty.
Identifies and requisitions supplies as needed.
Seeks clarification of assignments and asks questions when needed.
Volunteers assistance to co-workers as time permits or as directed.
Treats co-workers with courtesy, respect, and in a supportive manner at all times.
Resolves interpersonal conflict with co-workers directly and privately, seeking supervisor assistance as necessary.
Interacts with residents and maintains resident-centered conversations when participants are present.
Maintains a customer-friendly environment for residents, families, and guests that values and respects the uniqueness of each individual.
Attends department meetings, all staff meetings, mandatory in-services, and training.
Understands and uses Universal Precautions, OSHA Blood borne Pathogen Standard, and follows established infection control, hazardous communication, and all safety rules.
Demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices by compliance with established policies and procedures.
Washes hands when gloves are removed and when soiled, and uses hand sanitizer when appropriate.
Uses universal precautions according to facility policy, including using Personal Protective Equipment and Blood and Body Fluid spill kit when indicated.
Properly disposes of waste products.
Uses proper body mechanics when performing tasks.
Reports hazardous conditions or equipment to the manager immediately.
Handles equipment properly and safely.
Follows emergency safety policies and procedures (fire, evacuation, elopement, etc.).
Reports accidents and incidents immediately to the manager and completes an incident report.
Follows established safety precautions and safe operating procedures in the performance of all duties.
Addresses residents by preferred name and avoids labels.
Discusses resident status in private.
Maintains confidentiality of resident conversations unless doing so would jeopardize resident well-being.
Treats residents courteously, politely, and in a physically appropriate manner.
Maintains the confidentiality of all resident information and uses discretion when dealing with sensitive issues.
Responds to family/resident complaints consistent with facility policy.
Demonstrates knowledge of resident rights and respects them at all times.
Documents resident behaviors on the Resident Care & Concern Form and reports to the manager.
Reports emergent resident concerns to the manager immediately.
Documents any non-emergent concerns on the Health & Wellness Concern Form.
