About The Position
SSM Health Physical Therapy is seeking a passionate Certified Athletic Trainer to provide care for athletes in the Metro St. Louis area. The role serves contracted schools and coordinates access to additional health care for their athletes. Coverage needs are matched with the trainer’s availability to create a flexible PRN schedule. The position focuses on supporting athletes through injury prevention, rehabilitation, and emergency response. The trainer also participates in outreach opportunities and company-promoting events.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree.
- National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATA-BOC) certification.
- CPR certification.
- Applicable state license where required.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement specific therapeutic programs for injured athletes’ rehabilitation.
- Determine the need for and administer appropriate athletic training techniques before and during games and practices to decrease injury risk. Techniques may include taping, wrapping, bracing, hydration guidance, and minor wound care.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of athletic training and rehabilitation techniques, and record changes based on athlete response within the specified plan of care.
- Manage emergency incidents and coordinate EMS and acute care procedures, including basic life support, to reduce the impact of an injury on an athlete’s function.
- Seek outreach opportunities and participate in events to promote the company, such as races and club team events.
