About The Position

American Humane Society is accepting applications for Certified Animal Safety Representatives (CASR) on a rolling basis for various geographic locations, with a preference for candidates near major airports and with horse-related experience. The organization is seeking individuals with a Doctor in Veterinary Medicine (DVM), a Registered/Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician (RVT/LVT/CVT) license, or a B.S. in Animal Science or a related field to represent the "No Animals Were Harmed®" program on film, television, commercial, and new media production locations. This role ensures the humane treatment of animal performers, documents their care, and advises on animal safety issues, upholding the organization's guidelines. The position involves critical interactions with trainers, production executives, crew, and potentially the media. Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
Registered/Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician (RVT/LVT/CVT)
B.S. in Animal Science or related field from an accredited school, or equivalent combination of experience and education
Commitment to animal welfare
Broad knowledge and familiarity with a range of animals, from horses to snakes and spiders, fish, dogs, birds, goats and cats
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; active listening
Adept at building collaborative relationships and demonstrating diplomacy
Work effectively without direct supervision in the field
Detail-oriented and organized
Excellent judgment
Must be able to analyze situations and make recommendations within a short period
Adept at using computer for email and writing reports
Successful completion of the American Humane Society Certified Animal Safety Representative Training Course is required
Valid driver’s license required
Ability to provide own transportation to production location
Must be able to work outdoors in rough terrain, and in a variety of climatic conditions.
Must be able to work in extreme cold, extreme heat, wet and/or humid weather conditions.
Ability to walk, climb, balance and stand while on location.
Ability to lift on occasion 10 kg or more.
Ability to reach, handle, stoop and bend when observing and recording related duties.
Excellent vision from 6 meters or more.
Must have a passport for international travel (optional).

Responsibilities

Represent American Humane Hollywood’s “No Animals Were Harmed®” program on motion picture, television, commercial, and new media locations.
Ensure the humane treatment of animal performers.
Document how animals are housed and cared for.
Document how various scenes and/or stunts using animal performers are accomplished.
Advise regarding animal safety issues.
Uphold AH’s Guidelines for the Safe Use of Animals in Filmed Media.
Monitor animal action in filmed media.
Educate film personnel in humane matters.
Assist in any manner that pertains to the animals performing in the film.
Ensure the safety and welfare of the animal(s) involved.
Write timely and accurate detailed reports that provide a comprehensive understanding of animal action, how it was achieved, and safety precautions.
Communicate effectively and diplomatically with Hollywood program staff and production personnel, including producers, directors, assistant directors, special effects personnel, pyrotechnics personnel, firefighters, wranglers, trainers, veterinarians, and local enforcement agencies.
Act as a liaison to local agencies that have jurisdiction over animal welfare issues.
Work in local and larger geographic regions, and be available for travel to various locations nationwide and potentially internationally.
Research animal species to perform effectively on assignments when necessary.
Contact the Hollywood program office for instruction and/or experienced advice regarding dangerous animal action, explosives, stunts, pyrotechnics, or any animal action with the potential for serious injury.
Read scripts to determine animal action being filmed.
Contact trainers and/or production to determine how scripted animal action will be achieved.
Log pre-production information in the Hollywood program database.
Receive available information regarding production contacts, geographical locations, potentially dangerous animal action, wrangler/trainer information, and prior problems with the company/trainer/animal species.
Turn in all reports on time and complete per the Report Writing policy.
