The Certification Engineering Co-op at Collins Aerospace supports the research, planning, and execution of FAA certification processes for commercial aircraft seats and seating components. The co-op works with structural and flammability certification teams over a two-semester session running May/June through December, including the Fall semester. Students are expected to take a semester off from coursework to fully participate in this full-time mentorship opportunity. The role provides hands-on opportunities to apply engineering knowledge and contribute to certification efforts. Working alongside experienced engineers, the co-op supports seat testing, documentation, preparation of Technical Standard Order (TSO) packages, and other certification team activities. The experience also provides exposure to FAA regulations, the certification process, integrated project teams, and a fast-paced aerospace environment.
