About The Position

This position is at Fire Prairie Upper Elementary and works with students to support behavior and academic success. The job of Paraprofessional - Recovery Room is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for overseeing students referred to the Recovery Room; maintaining a safe and quiet environment; assisting students in assessing their behavior; and providing information to teachers, parents and/or other personnel.

Requirements

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Substitute Teaching Certificate through DESE (36 College credit hours required).
  • In lieu of education, candidates may complete 20 hour Frontline Course through DESE and submit to DESE with high school diploma.
  • Candidates may also pass Para Praxis test through DESE.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students with Recovery Room positive actions (e.g. think sheets, letter of apologies, student success plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring actions are completed.
  • Attends meetings (e.g. team, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Compiles data for the purpose of preparing reports.
  • Maintains confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. time sheets, student success plans, Recovery visits, etc.) for the purpose of providing accurate information in compliance with established administrative guidelines.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods (e.g. Recovery Room, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Prepares written documents and reports (e.g. monthly and yearly reports, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers, parents, and administration.
  • Provides verbal and/or written feedback of observations for the purpose of informing teacher/s and/or parents of students' progress.
  • Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g. fights, suspected child or substance abuse, inappropriate social behaviors, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, and/or parents, etc.) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to other sources.
