The Lead Sterile Processing Technician will serve as the shift lead and manage shifts independently when the manager or assistant managers are not present. Will coordinate the daily functions for assigned areas. Assists with ensuring that departmental goals are achieved, timelines met and service excellence provided in all aspects of work. Acts as a subject matter expert and mentor. Responsible for practicing professionally and enforcing the standards of quality assurance, infection control, AAMI, and AORN standards and guidelines. Prioritizes and delegates staff work assignments, oversees staff schedules, plans and manages department priorities, and provides technical assistance to SPD and O.R. staff as needed. Monitors Censitrac for department and staff productivity. Monitors staff’s quality of work, provides constructive feedback and oversees staff training. Provides leadership with feedback on staff performance and assists with goal setting for the team. Assists and monitors scanning activities related to decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and storage of reusable instrumentation. Identifies instrument needs and turnovers according to the O.R. schedule Provides in-service education to the SPD team as required Assists and participates in process improvement initiatives. Collaborates with the Perioperative leadership and nursing staff to provide necessary support services. Facilitates consistent and continuous workflow to keep pace with surgical schedule. Delegates a staff member to retrieve and stock supplies from the SPD stock locations. Operate and maintain competency with all Sterile processing equipment including washer decontaminator, steam sterilizer, ultrasonic, incubators, Sterrad and Steris Sterilizers, and heat sealer, according to the manufacturer’s manual. Decontaminate instruments and equipment per hospital policy, and wear appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) in the decontamination area. Utilize Resource pick tickets are used to create accurate and complete case carts. Utilize instrument tracking software to process instruments and maintain inventory. Checks to ensure instruments are functioning correctly. Ensures sterilization and load logs are closed out. Participate in the inventory of instruments and supplies. Participates in the ongoing instrument maintenance program. Recognize the influence of beliefs and cultures on behaviors and accept strengths and limitations in others. Exhibit adaptability, flexibility, self-control, and maturity in work and behavior. Exhibit calm responsiveness to emergency or stressful situations. Recognize situations that require notification of a supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Prior hospital experience in Sterile Processing is required.
  • Sterile Processing Course verification.
  • Sterile Processing Certification is required.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift to 50lbs.
  • Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service, and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation.
  • TB/PPD Surveillance Program
  • Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
