About The Position
The Sterile Processing Technician I ensures safe, accurate processing and availability of surgical instruments and supplies to support high-quality patient care. This role collaborates closely with Surgery, OB, ED, and other departments.
Requirements
- High school level courses knowledge
- Ability to read, write, and spell English
- Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations
- Basic computer skills
- Good customer service skills
- Math skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to perform physical work
Nice To Haves
- Certification preferred but not required
- Experience preferred but not required
- Knowledge of Med/Surg supplies and instruments is preferred
- Lift truck operators permit is preferred
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, assemble, inspect, sterilize, and store surgical instruments and equipment
- Prepare instrument trays, case carts, crash carts, procedure kits, and drape packs
- Perform and document sterilization monitoring (biological and chemical testing)
- Identify instruments needing repair, sharpening, or replacement
- Maintain inventory, par levels, and supply rotation; remove outdated or damaged items
- Support operating rooms during procedures as needed
- Utilize department systems (e.g., Lawson, SPM, Omnicell); serve as Super User for at least one system
- Follow all safety, regulatory, and infection control standards
