About The Position

The YMCA is seeking a part-time Ceramics Arts Instructor to join their team. This role involves teaching art lessons that focus on the principles of art education within the genre of ceramics, while upholding YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. The instructor will be responsible for lesson planning, class proposals, material lists, attendance, and class schedules. The position requires creating a safe and trusting creative environment, ensuring student safety, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the Arts Studio. The instructor will also promote the Y-Arts program, follow studio guidelines, pursue learning opportunities, and maintain communication with the Arts Studio Director and fellow instructors. Mandatory YMCA trainings are also required.

Requirements

  • A college degree related to the position’s related art field.
  • Prior experience working directly with students in an art education related environment.
  • Possess and demonstrate excellent organizational, verbal and written communication, interpersonal, decision-making, problem solving and leadership skills.
  • Possess strong experience and skills in their given field of fine arts.
  • Provide examples of personal art work to demonstrate their abilities.
  • Possess and demonstrate ability to work both within a team and independently.
  • Possess and demonstrate the ability to develop and implement meaningful and creative lesson plans appropriate for the targeted age group.
  • Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Safety and Youth Protection Series trainings prior to initial assignment to position.
  • Must complete online Hazard Communication training within the first 90-days of employment.
  • Must attend and complete Listen First within 90-days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement art lessons that increase the knowledge of art principles as well as expand the student’s interest in art.
  • Create a safe and trusting creative environment in the Arts Studio.
  • Ensure the safety of all students.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Arts Studio with a team effort of the class.
  • Communicate respectfully and clearly to all students and parents.
  • Reinforce positive behaviors and creative strides.
  • Handle disruptive behaviors in accordance with the Arts Studio Orientation Packet.
  • Actively participate in promoting the Y-Arts program at the YMCA and in the community.
  • Follow all guidelines and procedures stated in the Arts Studio Orientation Packet.
  • Actively pursue learning opportunities related to art education and character development.
  • Maintain required paperwork for the Arts Studio Director.
  • Sustain open communication between Arts Studio Director and fellow art instructors.
  • Attend mandatory YMCA trainings as/when required.
  • All other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
