About The Position

Doncasters is seeking a Ceramic Core Engineer for their aerospace investment casting facility in Oxford, Alabama. This role serves as the primary technical authority for non-metallic materials and manufacturing processes used to create internal cooling passages and hollow features in aerospace investment castings. The engineer will be responsible for developing a new core manufacturing operation from material development through forming, thermal processing, finishing, and strengthening. Key responsibilities include optimizing core manufacturing yields, ensuring process adherence and control, and resolving defects to maintain a stable flow of high-quality components. This position reports to the facility engineering manager/director.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited program.
Minimum 5 years of hands-on engineering experience in materials (preferably ceramics) processing, injection molding, or an investment casting foundry.
Proficiency in data analysis software like Minitab or Excel for Statistical Process Control (SPC).
Familiarity with laboratory testing methods & protocols.
Familiarity with dimensional inspection equipment, tooling design & operation, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary technical authority for non-metallic materials and manufacturing processes for internal cooling passages and hollow features in aerospace investment castings.
Develop a "green field" core manufacturing operation, covering material development, forming, thermal processing, finishing, and strengthening.
Optimize ceramic core manufacturing yields.
Ensure fixed process adherence and process control.
Solve structural or dimensional defects to ensure a stable product flow of high-quality components to downstream operations.
