About The Position

The Centralized Research Intern will join Schonfeld’s Central Research team in the Discretionary Macro and Fixed Income Division in New York. The intern will work on live research questions whose output directly informs portfolio managers’ investment processes, while developing an understanding of macro markets. Over the 10-week summer internship, the intern will build tools and analyze large datasets to generate actionable macroeconomic insights for portfolio managers. The internship includes a dedicated manager and mentor, learning sessions with senior leaders, hands-on skills workshops, social events, and opportunities to learn about the firm’s functions.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a PhD in Economics, Financial Economics, or a related quantitative field.
Strong grounding in macroeconomic theory and applied econometrics, including time series, panel data, and causal inference.
Proficiency in at least one statistical or programming language: Python, R, or MATLAB.
Genuine interest in financial markets and how macro research connects to investment decisions.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Willingness to learn and take ownership of responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

Prior research assistantship, internship, or work experience in economics, finance, or policy.

Responsibilities

Build quantitative models covering growth, inflation, labor markets, and monetary and fiscal policy across developed and emerging markets.
Conduct empirical research on macroeconomic themes such as policy transmission, term premia, and cross-country spillovers.
Develop and maintain data and analytical tools for the broader research team.
Communicate research findings clearly to researchers and portfolio managers to inform live investment decisions.
