Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Central Service Technology course.
  • National Certification: CSPDT or CRCST.
  • One year experience instrument processing.
  • Must have knowledge of sterilization and principles and procedures relating to all aspects of job.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.

Responsibilities

  • Follows established departmental policies to perform the work involved in receiving, decontaminating, cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, assembling, packing/wrapping, and sterilizing reusable medical devices.
  • Understands appropriate detergents and disinfectants used to process items.
  • Implements both universal precautions and proper use of PPE.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legal aspects of sterilization through appropriate documentation procedures. Assures sterilization records are completed correctly by recording all items processed, making sure the correct label/load gun is used, reading and interpreting chemical indicators, observing and initialing all computerized printout for accuracy.
  • Maintains an environment of care, which promotes freedom of cross-contamination.
  • Maintains Central Sterile Processing storage area in a clean and organized condition.
  • Performs, incubates, read and records weekly biological monitoring on all sterilizers in the Operating Room.
  • Performs and interprets daily Bowie-Dick on all pre-vacuum steam sterilizers.
  • Fills and restocks Operating Room supplies, requisitioned from Central Service.
  • Receives, labels, and packs regulated medical waste containers.
  • Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Assesses gaps in policies and procedures, and create necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps.
  • Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
  • Familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
  • Assists with the reprocessing of GI endoscopes in the Operating Room.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
