About The Position

The Central Sterile Supply Technician role is located at Evans Army Community Hospital, a state-of-the-art military medical center serving the Fort Carson community. This facility is part of the Defense Health Agency and delivers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care across a wide range of specialties. The technician will be responsible for ensuring the proper decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of medical devices and surgical instrumentation to maintain the highest standard of patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Certificate — completion of a central sterile supply training course.
  • 1 year of experience within the last 2 years as a central sterile supply technician.
  • Current certification by the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materials Management (IAHCSMM) or the National Institute of Health Care Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Receive, disassemble, and inspect reusable medical devices and surgical instrumentation for damage
  • Determine and execute the correct decontamination method (wiping, soaking, rinsing, scrubbing, ultrasonic, automated endoscope reprocessing, washer decontaminator/sterilizer)
  • Assemble and prepare the full range of specialty trays and instrument sets; select correct wrapping/packaging and sterilization process (ETO or Steam)
  • Conduct equipment testing of surgical instruments for operational efficiency and precision
  • Perform High Level Disinfection (HLD) of flexible scopes — manual and automated; ensure proper storage
  • Perform daily quality assurance testing on all cleaning and sterilization equipment; interpret results and log them
  • Receive sterilized items from sterilizers; check for sterilization integrity; stock and store in sterile storage rooms
  • Receive and dispose of regulated medical waste, general waste, and soiled linen per OSHA regulations
  • Maintain compliance with infection control standards, safety policies, and Joint Commission requirements
