About The Position

To develop and implement policies and procedures for the department adhering to the guidelines set forth by AAI, OSHA, and HFAP. To act as a resource person for sterilization techniques for the staff and other departmental areas within the organization. To facilitate duties performed by the Central Sterile staff through continuing education and in-services. To assign and schedule staff so they may perform and function to their fullest capabilities.

Requirements

  • Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) required.
  • LPN, RN, Certified Surgical Technician license as applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory and sterile processing experience preferred.
  • RN, LPN, or Certified Surgical Tech with 10 plus years of CSS experience strongly considered.

Responsibilities

  • Completes assignment within time frame delegated.
  • Assumes the duties of Central Sterile Technician as needed.
  • Demonstrates Time and Supply Management: Uses time productively. Checks and orders supply and inventory as needed. Refers requests to senior buyer or director. Assists with establishing billing charges for new instruments/sets. Carries out established procedures: cleaning, decontaminating and sterilization. Assists new Physicians with ordering and obtaining new instrumentation.
  • Supports Staffing/Scheduling Needs: Plans work assignments, call coverage, and vacation requests. Utilizes automated time and attendance system to verify employee hours; monitors overtime/discrepancies.
  • Interacts as a team player and participates in continuous quality improvement activities within the department and organization, supporting HRH and department QI plan including Peer Review, data gathering, and change process.
  • Performs daily quality control checks of equipment and processed supplies to insure that work assignments are completed.
  • Works closely with nursing departments and Infection Control to ensure that procedures for the handling and transporting of equipment utilized on patients are met.
  • Assists in the completion of performance evaluations; provides feedback and counseling related to performance/attendance; and maintains documentation of disciplinary actions.
  • Makes recommendations for personnel changes to the Director.
  • Conducts and supervised the training of new associates.
  • Initiates work order for equipment/instruments repair as needed.
  • Collaborates with other health care providers regarding the plan of intra-operative cares, including instrument/supply set up prior to case.
  • Maintains professional environment and keep noise to a minimum at all times.
  • Exemplifies excellent guests’ relations to patients, visitors, and physicians and co-workers.
  • Responsible for accurate and meticulous documentation of all sterilizer charts, record books, and biological records.
  • Initiates product recall, when required.
  • Implements instrument and equipment trials as needed.
  • Shares knowledge and skills with colleagues and others including orientation and cross-training.
  • Demonstrates leadership and is a role model and resource for peers as a super user, or preceptor.
  • Identifies professional needs and collaborates with management for learning opportunities for self and unit.
  • Participates in development and implementation of departmental goals and attends product and practice change in-services.
  • Establish and Maintains strong relationships with all customers, focusing on physicians, provider practices, anesthesia and public.
  • Coordinates dispatching and processing of equipment and supplies to various hospital departments and off site facilities.
  • Acts as a resource person for new physicians between the Operating Room and Central Sterile.
  • Engages patient, family, and significant others through the practice of AIDE T (Acknowledge, Identify, Duration, Explanation, Thank You).
